TAILWHEEL TRANSITION SYLLABUS

GROUND PORTION:

Fill out client paperwork; review the handout “Taildragger Basics”. 30 min

FLIGHT PORTION:

Period 1;

Start up, taxi, run-up, fly to practice area. 15 min

This period is to familiarize the client with the aircraft.

This will include airwork maneuvers to include climbs,

turns, stalls, slow flight, steep turns, slips, and

emergency landings. 40 min

Return to airport land, taxi and shut down. 10 min

Total 1 hour.

Period 2;

Start up, taxi, run-up, take-off. Remain in the pattern

for normal take-offs and landings. Emergency landings.

Introduction to wheel landings. Taxi and shut down.

Total 1 hour.

Period 3;

Start up, taxi, run-up, take-off. Remain in the pattern.

Review normal take-offs and landings. Power on

wheel landings. Introduction to short field and soft

field take-offs. Emergency landings. Introduction to

power off wheel landings.

Taxi and shut-down.

Total 1 hour

Period 4;

Start up, taxi, run-up, take-off. Remain in the pattern.

Review all. Emergency landings. Taxi and shut-down.

Total 1 hour

The above will generally be the minimum training required, if more training is needed for the client to demonstrate proficiency in the operation of a tailwheel aircraft, it will be provided.
